Dear Postdocs,
Per the UPPDA Constitution, there are five offices to fill:
President
Vice President
Secretary
Marketing & Communications Officer
Finance Officer
Please consider running for one of these positions; or, if you are unable to run, but know of someone that you think would do an exceptional job, please encourage them to run.
Specific duties of each office can be found in the UPPDA Constitution. As a whole, the Executive Board works towards planning the major events sponsored by the UPPDA, including:
* Monthly Postdoc Lunch Live! Events
* Annual Data & Dine Symposium (May)
* Fall Picnic (September)
* Science 20XX Career Symposium (October)
* Immigration Seminar (with OIS)
We also work very closely with the Office of Academic & Career Development, as well as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences.
This serves to provide a lot of support to Executive Board members, since our positions are volunteer positions and certainly not a full-time job, so our collaboration with OACD provides a lot of needed support for our programs, while the core decisions on the direction we take is done by the EB members of the UPPDA. OACD recognizes that our first and primary job is as a Postdoctoral Associate or Fellow, and that our research comes first. But this collaboration also serves to help you, the Postdoc, in your own career as they can help you in your career search process, as well as provide valuable references and recommendation letters.
The term of office for all Executive Board positions runs from DECEMBER 1 through NOVEMBER 30 of each year. The outgoing Executive Board serves in an advisory capacity to help with transition from DECEMBER 1 through FEBRUARY 28/29.
Simply select the position that you’re interested in and write a two to three paragraph description of your background and qualifications, as well as some of the goals that you would like to accomplish if elected.
Thank you!
Derek J. Cashman, Ph.D.
Marketing & Communications Officer
University of Pittsburgh Postdoctoral Association
